Requirements for Entering the World Bookmark Day Raffle:
1. Send us only photographs of the bookmarks you wish to contribute to participate in the raffle and the total number. The photographs do not have to show each individual bookmark but should be arranged to give a good idea of how many you will send to the winner. 2. It is fine to include a fewduplicates, but try to find as many individual bookmarks as possible. 3. Include a brief description of the types of bookmarks (e.g., publishers, libraries, bookstores, die cut, art related, children's, etc.). 4. Remember to tell us your lucky number for the raffle. 5. Send your photos and information to the IFOB editor at ifobeditor(at)gmail.com and include your postal mailing address. 6. Send your pledge at any time, but the deadline is February 20, 2024).
We must receive at least 5 entrants in order to hold the raffle. The bookmarks pledged by the winner of the raffle will be sent to a second place winner so that you don't receive back your own contributions to the raffle.
See the Woboda page for examples of ways to photograph your contributions:
The processfor determining the winner of the World Bookmark Day raffle:
All participants will be asked for an individual number between 1 and 99. Whereas all participants know their own number, they don't know the numbers of the other participants. At the end we will sum up all the individual numbers of the participants and will have a sum number. Let say that sum is 348. We have a certain number of raffle tickets at the end and each participant owns a part of the raffle tickets.
Here's an example to illustrate: let's say we have 8 participants and they have together 37 raffle tickets. The number of the winning ticket will be calculated by the following formula: t = 348 / 37 = 9.40541 - 9 = 0.40541 x 37 = 15 The ticket numbers are given in the order of the participants' joining date. In our case, participant 1 has two tickets, no 1 and 2, participant 2 has 3 ticket (ticket number 3, 4, and 5), participant 3 has 2 tickets (ticket number 6 and 7) etc. There is only one exception in the calculation: if the calculation gives 0 that means the highest ticket number, in our case ticket number 51.
While this sounds rather complicated, it is completely verifiable and there is no chance of manipulating it by anybody. The lot is drawn by the participants themselves so to speak! All new participants should send along a photograph their bookmarks also an individual number between 1 and 99.
In order to prevent the winner from getting back his/her own bookmarks, the bookmarks of the winner will be given to a second winner. The second winner is the participant next to the winner according to the joining date (in this case we made it easy as the winning ticket is already determined). In case the winner is the last joining participant, the second winner is then the the first participant according to this logic.
After the raffle ends:
If you win: The editor will notify you and send you the email and postal address of the second place winner so you can send your bookmarks to that person.
If you win second place: The editor will notify you of the winner so you can send your bookmarks to that person, and so that you can expect to get a mailing from the first place winner of their contribution to the raffle.
If you don't win: The editor will notify you of the winner's address so that you can send your bookmarks to that person. Better luck next time!
Please try to send bookmarks by the end of March.
